Bill's Mistake with Monica

© 1998 Joe Murray

Bill made a major mistake with Monica Lewinsky. No, it wasn’t letting her blow his horn. No, it wasn’t perjury, obstruction of justice, subordinating perjury, abuse of power, or lying to his family and the entire world. He did all those things; but since all Bill cares about is getting away with it and retaining power under any circumstances, his main mistake was to not silence Monica when he grew tired of the song she was playing on his horn. He should have pulled out a gun and blown her away.

Most of his friends, unimaginatively known as "friends of Bill," are up to their eyeballs in the Dixie Mafia. The Dixie Mafia is responsible for much of the nation’s drug trafficking and related money laundering. He could have had one of these few, who are not currently employed by the government, carry out the actual murder and dump her body in Ft Marcy Park. Dan Lasater or his own brother, Roger, easily could have put him in touch with someone capable of the job.

The park police would have called it a suicide, and the affair would have remained a secret. Bill wouldn’t be facing the idea of becoming only the 2nd president impeached by the House of Representatives. He would have already avoided being the 3rd president to have articles of impeachment approved by the House Judiciary Committee. Even if enough of it came to light and someone made the allegation, I doubt any law enforcement or the media would have seriously investigated. It is thought kooky or conspiratorial inside the beltway to believe any high government official, let alone the President, could murder someone.

If the thought of a President murdering someone makes you angry, I submit that you are in the minority. It seems that most people in this country seem apathetic and beyond outrage at the conduct of Bill Clinton. There was little outrage when millions tuned in a few weeks ago to 60 Minutes to watch Dr. Death intentionally kill a man in an act that meets the requirements (of any jurisdiction) for 1st degree murder. No matter how blasphemous it sounds, some even claim that Dr. Death may be an agent of God.

Even if it is not the case that people would accept a murderer in the White House, it is exactly the implication of the argument the President’s lawyers and most of his democratic party are making in trying to defend and excuse Clinton’s behavior. After all, perjury, obstruction of justice and abuse of power don’t rise to the level of impeachment. A president’s personal conduct isn’t worthy of impeachment because his crimes were of a personal nature.

In fact, historian Sean Wilentz in the Los Angeles Times recently made the argument that murder does not rise to the level of impeachment. He even had historical evidence. In 1804, Vice President Aaron Burr shot and killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel. The Congress didn’t move to impeach him, despite Burr being indicted for murder. Therefore, even if Bill’s murder of Monica would have come to light, according to his supporters, he could remain in office. It just doesn’t rise to the level of impeachment. Therefore, Bill would have been in a better situation if he had silenced Monica before she could have talked.

If I stopped here, I would probably have the White House on the phone, offering me big bucks to be the next Dick Morris. Of course, I was just cynically illustrating the absurd arguments put forth to defend Bill Clinton’s crimes. Dr. Death’s morally repugnant actions defy the fundamental principles of civilization, law, religion and his own medical profession. Likewise, Bill Clinton’s actions cannot be tolerated, if we are going to continue to uphold the principles of constitutional law. The House of Representatives is constitutionally duty-bound to impeach Clinton. The Senate is duty-bound to try and convict him. It is, then, the responsibility of the judicial branch to punish him for perjury and obstruction of justice and send him to jail, just like most every other convicted felon.

It is heartening to see the honor and dignity of the Republicans on the Judicial Committee who had the courage to do the right thing – to vote for articles of impeachment. It is heartening that a Michigan District Attorney has charged Dr. Death for his latest murder. It is encouraging that, despite the apathy and supposed support of Bill Clinton, the American people by a huge 80% majority in an ABC News poll believe that Clinton committed perjury. Fifty-eight percent (58%) think that if the House of Representatives approves articles of impeachment, Clinton should resign. Fifty-seven percent (57%) believe he had a fair hearing, despite the childish behavior and whining of "unfair" by the rabble made by Democrats on the Judiciary committee. Hopefully, the positive poll numbers will actually get moderate Republicans and some Conservative Democrats to actually have the backbone to withstand the assaults of the White House and do the right thing -- to vote for impeachment.

If the tide is turning toward doing the right thing, a note of gratitude must be given to David Schippers, the counsel for the majority on the house Judicial Committee. Schippers is a lifetime Democrat who voted twice for Bill Clinton and worked for the Justice Department under President Kennedy and Attorney General, Robert Kennedy. However, unlike most Democrats, he respects the rule of law. His eloquent closing statement before the Judiciary Committee should go down in history as a classic defense of our Constitution and rule of law in making the case for the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.

Now it’s your turn to add to or subtract from that honor and integrity. You’ve heard the evidence, you’ve heard the law, you’ve listened to the experts and you’ve heard all of the arguments. Now what I say here will be forgotten in a few days, but what you do here will be incised in the history of the United States for all time to come. Unborn generations, assuming those generations are still free and are still permitted to read true history, will learn of these proceedings and will most certainly judge this committee’s actions. What will be their verdict?

Will it be that you rose above party and faction and reestablished justice, decency, honor and truth as the standard by which even the highest office in the land must be evaluated? Or will it be that you announce that there is no abiding standard, and the public officials are answerable only to politics, polls and propaganda. God forbid that will be your legacy. The choice is yours.

Bill Clinton and Dr. Death have much in common because they have already avoided their just punishment too long. They both bastardized the principles of their profession. For example, look at the famous Hippocratic Oath that doctors have sworn to uphold since the 5th Century B.C.

I will follow that system of regimen which, according to my ability and judgment, I consider for the benefit of my patients, and abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous. I will give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel; and in like manner I will not give to a woman a pessary to produce abortion. With purity and with holiness I will pass my life and practice my Art...I will continue to keep this Oath unviolated, may it be granted to me to enjoy life and the practice of the art, respected by all men, in all times! But should I trespass and violate this Oath, may the reverse be my lot!

It is clear that Dr. Death violates the mission of the medical profession and the laws of this country. He should be removed from the profession and granted the penalty deserving of his murder spree, death with dignity under due process of law. I think he should even have the honor of his profession and give himself his own lethal dose, although I doubt he has the courage to take his own life.

Bill Clinton violated his oath as both President and as a lawyer to uphold the Constitution. Like Dr. Death, he clearly has a Messiah complex. He thinks he is above the law and can get away with anything. After all, he and his aids daily claim the country couldn’t survive without Bill Clinton running things. I don’t know how we survived for over 200 years without him.

In his most perverse attempt at using propaganda and symbolism to remain in power, Clinton chose the very week the house is voting on impeachment to travel to the Middle East, known to both Christianity and Moslems as the Holy Land -- and just 10 days before Christmas. Without a word spoken, he is portraying himself as the peacemaker and is walking in the steps where Jesus Christ walked two thousand years ago. Jesus Christ was the most important and virtuous figure in history and who received the most unjust trial. It is the height of arrogance and blasphemy for such a crook to pull such a self-serving stunt.

If there is any symbolism to the experience of Jesus Christ with Bill Clinton, it is to Barabbas. Remember, Barabbas was the thief and murderer. The priests, pharisees, and mob demanded that Barabbas be released instead of the innocent Jesus Christ. The supporters of Crook Clinton make as much sense, and are as about as hysterical, as the rabid mob, with their willingness to destroy the Constitution and rule of law for the most corrupt crook ever to grace the White House. My real advice to Bill Clinton is to please listen to the will of the people. With any smidgen of decency that might remain within your soul, resign the office and confess to your crimes so that you can save your own soul and that of the nation.

Note -- Aaron Burr shot Alexander Hamilton on July 12, 1804, which was an election year. Burr was running for Governor of NY, not President or Vice-President. Congress wasn’t even in session for all or most of the time until the new congress and President and Vice-President took over. There was clearly no time to have resolved the matter before the election, especially with the mode of travel in those days. Burr lost the race for Governor and was no longer in the Federal Government, so there was no need for impeachment. Therefore, this refutes the stupid notion that Burr’s action is a precedent that murder doesn’t rise to the level of impeachment.
