I
thoroughly enjoyed Mike Hendricks' conversation about gambling with
"Virgil". Virgil (I don't know whether he is fictional
or not) made some cogent philosophically comments. . . .especially about
going overboard on gambling. . .or in any area of life, including
driving a car, eating, drinking, partying, etc. As Virgil puts it,
"Most people who consume drugs, alcohol, or food don't overindulge.
Some people do. . . . there are risks in life, and there are some people
who enjoy risk more others. Why would someone tell me I can't do
something simply because they don't want to do it?"
Great!!!
If someone wants to smoke a "coffin nail", it's their
life. Mike implies, and I agree with him (and Ventura) that drugs
should be legalized. The war on drugs by all counts is a miserable
failure. Mike's analogy to obesity (and the other activities
above) which can result in diabetes and other health problems is just as
much a problem as drugs. (Obesity in America is getting national
attention in the news.) Should we prohibit chocolate and other
sweets and fattening foods? How about a 5 day waiting period and
background checks to purchase a car? Cars kill thousands more
people than drugs.
Anyway,
I salute Mike and Virgil. Let's hear more from Virgil.
