Dear Editor:

The football team is to be congratulated for an outstanding performance at Homecoming this year.

Mostly though I want to comment on the the performance of the pep band. This group of students spend a considerable amount of time in practice and performance at many home games in various sports. Since Mr Brewer has become their director the quality of performance has improved greatly and they are a real joy to hear and watch perform.

I truly wish the spectators in the stands would show appreciation for what they do and do so well. It was hard to hear the band over all the noise of the inattentive clods in the stands. I know that most of those in attendance are there to see the game and half-time entertainment is secondary but these kids have worked hard to achieve the performance level at which they play. They recently received a superior rating in McCook and today they are representing Chase County High School in Grand Island.

These kids deserve recognition for the hard work they do. You might also want to see their concert performances at school this year also. Be sure and be early as there is usually standing room only. The Chase County High School band is rapidly becoming one of the best in the state thanks to the hard work of the students and their director, Mr Jim Brewer.
