Dear Editor:

What do bored kids do on a Saturday night? Some may say they go out and party, which others think they just go to a movie or stay at a friends' house. Why, some people might even think they drag main street. However, I know differently. There seems to be a new Saturday night hobby in Chase County. I'm sure some other area farmers could tell you what it is, too.

Saturday 10, 1997 is the magic date, probably around 12:00am or perhaps a little later. A group of kids decide "Let's go out in the country and pull out every test plot sign and dealer sign that we see!" Yea, that sounds like fun.

The next day while driving to church, we notice along the way that all of our neigbors' test plot signs are laying on the ground. Hey, wait! OUR signs are, too. But we were a little less fortunate than the others. Their signs were only pulled up, moved, and layed down. Some of our signs are missing, as well as our dealer sign and the stake that held it up.

Surely some kids didn't do this. No, the waters of Enders Lake must be responsible, because that is where the signs ended up; floating in the lake. How cute! Parents, don't you know what is happening with your kids? If you do, please do something about it. If you don't, then get more involved with your childs' activities.

True, this act is pretty much harmless to people, but equally annoying. Can't kids find something better to do than this? Oh, yea, they can. They can see how many beer cans they can throw out of the window. Oh, goody, a new game. It's great seeing our countryside littered with trash that shouldn't be in some peoples' possession, anyway. If you're going to drink, at least stay off the road and take your garbage back to your own lot. We don't need it out here on ours. Would you like it if we drove down your street and dumped our trash on your property or on your roads?
